FMRSU (Financial Management Resource Support Units)

In January 2009 Matrix on Board commenced work on building a support network for money management services in the Northern Territory and Western Australia with FaHCSIA funding extended to June 2011.

Money Management Workers are responsible for assisting Indigenous families and individuals to budget, save and make the best decisions about their earning and spending. Our Financial Management Resource Support Units FMSRUs are working with the Money Management Workers to ensure they:

» Understand money management and budgeting, financial services and family payments
» Are able to provide training and skills development in areas such as professional accountability, casework management, duty of care, codes of conduct, client contact, privacy and confidentiality, record keeping and reporting requirements
» Establish and maintain viable networks and relationships with other relevant agencies, organisations, money management workers and clients
» Offer support in leadership, governance, financial management and reporting

On the ground, Matrix on Board has four offices across Northern Australia with consultants working with Money Management Service Providers and Money Management Workers by providing training, coaching, mentoring and practical skills workshops.

Matrix on Board provides Money Management Workers with non-accredited training in Family Payments Education, use of the Money Business Community Education Kit and other financial literacy related areas to assist them to be more effective in their work.

Matrix on Board also assist the Money Management Workers to attain training aligned in the following areas:

» Certificate I in Work Preparation
» Certificate III in Community Services Work

We have learned a lot from the pilot and we continue to assist Money Management Workers to empower individuals and communities to take control of their financial resources.
